The Rocker

The Rocker

In this rocker, I use a combination of steam bending and bent laminations to generate the graceful and extremely comfortable curves. Each component is hand sculpted to final shape using a drawknife and spokeshave. In skilled hands, these tools produce a velvet surface that glows within three coats of hand-rubbed oil and varnish, highlighting the handwork that goes into crafting each chair. Traditional pegged mortise and tenon joinery and my trademark wedged sliding dovetails elegantly bring the parts together for a lifetime of enjoyment.

The Rocker is available in combinations of milk painted and natural oiled surfaces.

Stools

Stools

The tops on these stools are hand sculpted from 18” and wider oak threshing floors reclaimed from the aging barns of the Appalachian Mountains and Shenandoah Valley. Sliding dovetails and mortise and tenon joinery gracefully bring the components together, creating a sturdy workhorse. The stools are comfortable around the table, on the porch or by the fireside.

The coal shovel stools have flitch cut steam bent backs securely attached with my trade mark wedged sliding dovetail joinery.

Farm Tables

Farm Table

The farm table is crafted to be a versatile workhorse. I make this table with either lathe turned or hand shaped tapered legs reminiscent of Shaker designs. The top highlights the best of the wide planking available from the vanishing barns of the Appalachian Mountains and the Shenandoah Valley.

Average table top thickness is 1 3/8” to 1 3/4”, with available breadboard ends for added stability and a traditional handmade touch.

Drawers are available upon request.

Additional seating at the Farm Tables is achieved by adding company boards, a simple leaf that is added to either or both ends of the table as needed. I craft these company boards with sliding dovetails to insure a lifetime of stability and service.

These demanding hinges are pivot points for the sculpted brackets that swing to support the leaves. Available in a combination of natural oiled lumber and hand applied milk painted finishes.
